Heartwarming / King Lear

Go To

  • The King of France's proposal to Cordelia in King Lear is truly sweet, romantic, and heartwarming because he shows such staunch support for her in what (up until then) must be the most painful moment of her life.
    She is herself a dowry.
  • The scene where Lear reunites with Cordelia, especially when Cordelia reveals that she is not bitter as Lear had expected her to be.
  • After spending every moment on stage being a real jerkass, during the storm, Lear finally shows compassion for another human being when he asks his fool if he's cold, and lets him into the hovel first, following it up by stripping down to give Edgar some of his clothes. As Charles Hutt put it in an episode of Slings & Arrows:
He's losing his mind, but on the way, he's finding his heart.
