Heartwarming / Die Hard with a Vengeance

Go To

  • Before actually learning what's really going on with John McClane and why he is wearing a sandwich reading "I HATE NIGGERS" in Harlem, and despite himself being African-American, Zeus still nobly tries to save what appears to be a racist (or crazy homeless person) from getting killed by any African American locals who would take notice of his insulting sandwich message.
    • As soon as John does explain what's going on. Zeus understands the gravity of the situation, immediately coming John's aid when the local's attack him.
  • After the subway bombing, Cobb makes sure to let McClane's actions saved the lives of everyone in the train and station. You can tell by John's face that he needed to hear that.
  • There is something oddly endearing about Gruber's company celebrating their ill-gotten gold. When one of the soldiers happily raises his beer and says "To our money", another solemnly says "to our fallen comrades", to which EVERY soldier present silently and sadly did. Even Evil Has Loved Ones, after all.
    • In the same vein, the two Mooks masquerading as NYPD officers make sure one of their bombs is kept away from the public once it's served its purpose. One of them even echoes Zeus' "Some kid could..." line from earlier in the movie. They're murderous, ruthless bastards for sure, but like Simon himself says, they're not "monsters".
    • Simon himself seeking vengeance for his brother despite readily agreeing with John that he was "an asshole"—"There's a difference between not liking ones brother and not caring when some dumb Irish flatfoot drops him out of a window."
  • Zeus manages to free John from the handcuffs, but drops his lockpick. With less than a minute left before the bomb explodes, he tells John to leave him behind and save himself, but John refuses.
John: I've had a hard enough time gettin' through the day without your death on my conscience. Now shut the fuck up and think, all right?
