Heartwarming / Alice Through the Looking Glass

Go To

  • Despite not thinking very highly of them, Time still clearly cares about his little Seconds. When one of the Seconds starts to cry after Time offhandedly called them stupid, he picks it up, gives it a kiss and apologises for being rude.
  • When Time collects the stopped watch of Brilliam Hinkle and takes it to the "library" of dead Underlanders, he says, "I hope you were happy. I hope you used your days well," before letting it go.
  • The fact that the Hatter's father, when presented with a threat to his family, always takes a stand in front of them.
  • Mirana dragging Iracebeth with her as Underland is turning to rust.
  • As the rust has them cornered, Bayard tells the others that he treasured every moment he spent with them and leaps in front of them, even though it really didn't do any good.
  • The White Queen repairing her bond with her sister.
  • Alice's mother protecting her daughter and helping her escape the asylum she was put in. Considering how unsupportive she has been shown to be, it really warms the heart knowing how her mother supports her, no matter how nonsensical Alice has been acting lately.
    • It's especially heartwarming when you consider why she hasn't been supportive. Since the death of Lord Ascot, she's probably suffered a degradation in circumstances because his wife and son don't like her and her daughter; only he did. The film explicitly shows that she's on the verge of losing the house because the income has pretty much dried up, and Alice isn't aware of how bad things have been due to her going off and having adventures at sea. Mrs. Kingsleigh has been trying to hold things together, so Alice's antics on top of that have probably stressed her to the breaking point. And yet, when push comes to shove, she doesn't hesitate to protect her daughter.
  • Again related to Alice's mother, the fact that the thing that causes her to tear up the contract and get behind Alice's idea of a career in business is Hamish laughing at her daughter by calling her stubborn and dubbing her as "everyone's clock".
Mrs. Kingsleigh: Alice can do anything she wants... and so can I.
  • It's common for people like the ones Alice is surrounded with to be two-faced, and only act nice on the outside while really looking down on people, but Hamish's wife still seems to be a nice person to Alice.
  • Alice's final interaction with Time, after bringing back the Chronosphere, speaks volumes of heartwarming. There in the room with the living Underlanders' watches, they reconcile, with an eternal, beautiful sunrise in the background. Alice tells Time how she now realizes that instead of Time being a thief, he is in fact a gift, giving everyone the moments to be with family, to live, to be happy and how she is grateful for that. She gives him her father's broken watch as a gift, saying that her father would have liked him, and Time replies that while people say Time is no man's friend, she will be the exception.
  • After all the paranoia, doubt, and ridicule she experienced through the years, experiences that formed her downward spiral into cruelty and madness, it is ultimately Mirana's heartfelt and remorseful apology that convinces Iracebeth to abandon her temper-fueled actions. It's quite clear that of all the fears and betrayals she's had, her sister's was the first and the worst.
  • While it is also a funny moment, when Time arrives at the tea party looking for Alice, Tarrant, who is still mulling over Alice's advice of reconciling with his father, immediately starts playing dumb and distracting Time with stupid puns so she can escape. Keep in mind this is a (very strange) woman he (from his perspective) has known for five minutes tops and has had two conversations with (and he doesn't even know that she's the Alice that's meant to save them, like in the first movie), but his first instinct is still to help her. Bonus points for this calling back to him doing the same thing in the first film.
    • Everyone else playing along despite not knowing who or what Alice is is also quite sweet.
