Heartwarming / A Wedding (1978)

Go To

  • Evil Matriarch or not, Nettie's first scene shows her feeding the birds at her windowsill and then, when her nurse lectures her for the strain that caused, showing concern for the nurse's health due to how much the younger woman smokes.
  • Muffin says her brother Hughie feels like the twin she never had due to their closeness and they don't get many scenes together, but there is indeed a feeling of closeness and affection between them throughout the film.
  • Aunt Marge is the only person shown tipping the valets after the guests arrive.
  • Kevin and Chris tell Kevin's mother that they are delaying announcing their own wedding to avoid upstaging Dino and Muffin, and Chris then asks if she can call Mrs. Clinton "Mom."
  • Marge is polite to Jim even after he admits he's the estate gardener and not a guest, and they end up flirting in most of their scenes.
  • Luigi and Regina reminiscing about how they met when he was her busboy (and bribed another waiter so he could serve her table) is both touching and sad as the current distance between them becomes clear.
  • Reverend David Rutledge's belief that God talked to him during his misspent youth and told him to go back to Candice, the woman he'd "impregnated and deserted", is treated as dubious and unsettling by the person he tells the story to. Nonetheless, that rocky beginning to their relationship makes it a lot more touching that David and Candice are the only Happily Married couple in the whole movie besides the two newlywed couples (and even then, there are hints that Dino and Muffin's marriage may get bumpier in the near future).
  • The basement singalong to "Heavenly Sunshine." Some characters with other concerns are distracted or melancholic during it, but most of the cast enjoys it and some people (such as Briggs, Tracy, Reverend Rutledge, Beatrice, the Romani violinist, and Ruby) look a lot more relaxed and happy than they normally do.
  • The friendship between Ruby, Victoria, and Daphne in the last act, especially after Daphne seemed so uncomfortable with most of her new in-laws earlier on.
  • All of the scenes with Luigi spending time with his brother after realizing that with Nettie dead, she can't control his life and make him keep his brother away anymore.
  • While most people's general lack of sympathy for the actual victims mars things, seeing Dino and Muffin's parents and immediate family members find out that they are alive and didn't die in the car crash has some touching moments.
  • After learning that his son didn't just die in a car crash, Luigi still shows concern and sympathy for the actual victims and wants to notify their families at once.
