  • Evelyn and Lee's moment in the basement when they show how much they love each other and slow dance together, using headphones to hear the music.
  • Many of Lee's scenes with his children and you see how much he loves them. Even if they make mistakes, he never seems to get angry at them. One notable scene is taking Marcus to the river where they can finally talk normally, as the river's sound drowns them out. Lee even takes the chance to howl behind a waterfall after assuring Marcus how safe he is. After how serious Lee has been the whole film, seeing him being able to relax and be a playful father with his son is just heartwarming.
  • Doubling as a Tear Jerker, Lee's final message to Regan: "I love you. I have always loved you." He never blamed her for Beau's death, even if he's been too damaged by it to truly talk with her to the extent both needed. But he doesn't even show an ounce of hesitation giving his life for his kids after telling them how much they truly mean to him.
  • The relationship between the siblings is very close, amicable and protective, in contrast to more commonly portrayed sibling relationships full of fighting and competition. Regan starts the film as a kind and nurturing older sister to her younger brothers and remains so to her surviving sibling though she blames her soft-hearted actions towards her youngest brother for his demise. In turn, Marcus uses an incredibly rare chance to have a vocal conversation with his father to try and help mend the relationship between the latter and Regan. The children go on to save each other several times during the action.
