• Why didn't Alexander simply remove the swing when he broke one of the staples putting it up? Asides from tempting fate, there was always the chance that Cecy would come over and use the swing without knowing it was broken, as she wasn't there to hear Aunt Izzie's warning. He's also spent a lot of time with the children, and would most likely know that they would be tempted to use it.
• Why didn't they transform one of the downstairs rooms into a bedroom for Katy while she's bedbound? It isn't as if the Carr house is lacking in rooms, they could have easily used the seldom used parlour for example, and it would allow Izzie to keep a much closer eye on Katy throughout the day while attending to her other duties. Even more importantly, the rest of the Carr family would be able to come and spend time with Katy more easily and when Katy is well enough to use her wheeled chair, she could push herself around on the ground floor.
