Why not go to a warzone?
During the series, it's revealed that The Outsider is El Cuco, a shapeshifting demon that literally feeds on human suffering. If that's the case, why not go to one of the many spots on Earth where there's a lot more suffering than his current spot (which is the US)? Why not go to a warzone, for instance?
- It's been a few months since I watched the show, but as I recall, it seems that El Cuco needs to be the one to cause the suffering to feed on it. Otherwise he could just hang around any old funeral home and feed off of the mourners. If that's the case, then being in a warzone would just complicate matters rather than make it easier. I would say, however, that hanging around a less technologically developed nation would be preferable to America, with its security cameras and modern police.
- Risk vs reward. Whatever suffering it could bring about of its own doing wouldn't be worth it in a place where it could be shot with automatic weapons, blown up, run over by a tank etc. Besides, it doesn't like to stay in one place too long and potentially draw attention to itself with a spree of similar crimes within the same area. One thing that many of even the most developed nations have in common is that police communication between different jurisdictions is often lacking.
- Its a Stephen King monster the likes of Pennywise and Leland Gaunt. Trying to able human morality to something that is not human is fool's errand. It does what it does not out of necessity but pure sadsim, it doesn't just feed on human suffering it gets off on it!
