How did The Carver pull off that fake stream?
- So, The Carver sends the cops on the wrong trail by livestreaming from a phone and pointing it at a computer with the actual stream of the Wrights and the other characters. This isn't so much a question of the tech, I'm sure he was using VPNs or something. No, my actual question is this: Sheriff Newlon was searching with the other cops, wasn't he? If that's the case, how did he get back to the Carver house and start doing his speech shortly after? And also, how did he broadcast the phone and activate the stream from a location other than the computer monitor in the tunnel? Did I miss something or what?
- If he was smart enough to setup (multiple, judging by the equipment we see during Kathleen's escape) proxies or VPNs, he could've written an app set to bring the decoy phone out of airplane mode and start the stream at a specific time, or used an off-the-shelf remote app like AnyDesk or Teamviewer to remotely control the phone from another burner phone.
Why didn't the social media company take the account and posts down?
- I just want to know how The Carver managed to post the photos of his victims and livestream himself killing Evan without his posts or even his entire account getting taken down by the social media community guidelines. There is no way that this form of NSFW (irl corpses) can easily slide the guidelines.
- Three possibilities: artistic license, having multiple accounts, or The Carver manipulating the social media company into keeping the account active and the posts up under the pretense of tracking the user down.
- Another possibility is that the posts were likely taken down as soon as they went up, but they had already served their intended purpose: scaring the crap out of his targets. The livestream was kept active so that the authorities could track him down, but any recording was taken down afterward. The phone that was logged into the social media account was left as-is for evidence and the company didn't shut the account down until they were ordered to by law enforcement (again, The Carver manipulating them for his own ends).
