    Join the Party

  • Instead of going through Operation Strix, where Twilight has to go through the trouble of raising a family in a short timespan, why not just let him join the party that Donovan is head of? It should be easier to get closer to him if Donovan thinks he is an avid supporter of whatever the party's ideals are.
    • Donovan is apparently so secretive that even being a member of his party would not guarantee access to him, let alone the opportunity to learn his secrets. Further, one would assume faking a identity and background to the degree to get into the inner circle of Donovan's party (if there is such an inner circle) would be more difficult and also raise the chance of the facade being discovered compared to just being the parent of a student at the school. It may still have been an option, as Twilight does at first plan on finding a way to continue the mission without a child, but he ended up not needing to go that route.
    • There's also the fact that, due to his paranoid tendencies, there is no guarantee that Donovan would trust any inner circles more than he does strangers... and indeed, when we meet the man in person in Mission 38, he regards everyone the same way. If anything, infiltrations to inner circles and other high-level positions are no doubt some of the most prime opportunities that spies would attempt to penetrate, and such people are who he'd be most on-guard around (especially if they appeared from virtual nowhere in a short span of time). By contrast, he'd be less suspicious of someone innocuous he met by pure chance, who may support him but isn't solely concerned with getting close to him.
    • Not to mention... who's to say they have not attempted to infiltrate his inner circle, to no avail, before resorting to such a roundabout and risky plan?
      • Chapter 37 in fact confirms that WISE has attempted a number of times to infiltrate in other ways but that they all failed.

    Identities Revealed

  • Why aren't Twilight's and Thorn Princess's true identities known to various intelligence agencies if their cover keeps being blown? Also, many spies and assassins saw their real faces during combat.
    • Most likely none of them live to tell the story.
    • In addition, their respective agencies likely destroy evidence that would link to their civilian identities, and/or doctor existing ones to throw them off; it's not out of the question that they have people inside these third parties for such a purpose. And without the paper/photograph trails actually providing a definite link, eyewitness reports are unreliable at best.
    • The Thorn Princess also never leaves any survivors (though on occasion, a lone person has lived), and Twilight is almost always in disguise. Not to mention, Loid's backstory demonstrates that he no longer has an old identity or past other than the ones he undertakes for his job, effectively existing as a man of many faces, none of which are actually his own.
  • This could be asked about other characters as well. Yor's "Garden" supervisor is shown to work with her at in her government office in the cruise ship arc yet the supervisor has no idea Yor's brother is a counter-intelligence agent. Surely "Garden" would have looked very carefully at everyone around Yor for security's sake. And Twilight/Loid deduces the brother is an undercover operative at first meeting.
    • Yor has been an assassin for way longer than Yuri has been in the Secret Police. It's likely that since Garden already trusts Yor, because she served them for many years, they don't bother looking into her personal life too much. They didn't even take an interest in Loid until she mentioned he was interested in the National Unity party.

    Bondman
  • Why does Bondman look so much like Loid, except with green eyes instead of grey and his hair slicked back under his hat? He's even (allegedly) a spy, just like Loid.
    • Loid is noted by other characters to be very handsome, while Bondman is supposed to be a cool ladies' man and therefore good-looking as well. As such, it's not unreasonable to assume that Bondman's creators designed him according to conventional standards for male beauty in Ostania and coincidentally ended up with a character that just happens to look a lot like Loid.

    Never Mentioning the Non-Existent Widow
  • I've only seen the anime so forgive me if it comes up later, but why doesn't Yor ever seem to be curious about Loid's (fabricated) first wife? He tells Yor that Anya getting enrolled into Eden was the Dying Wish of "Mrs. Forger" but the subject never comes up after that. Obviously it's not something you'd want to constantly press Loid about as from her perspective he could still be grieving after two years, but it's bizarre the fact she's the second wife only comes up when they're deceiving others, never in private. Given Yor's insecurities about her role as Anya's mother, you'd think she'd occasionally ask Loid for pointers by asking what the "late" Mrs. Forger did when taking care of Anya.
    • There is apparently a unspoken agreement by both Yor and Loid to never ask about each other's personal lives (including their pasts), as Loid references this when he notices Yor coming home late (when she is getting cooking lessons). Perhaps Yor is tempted to ask, but worries about bringing up painful memories, and Loid has repeatedly assured her she is doing well, so she may think he has no pointers to offer.
    • We can't rule out the possibility that the widow has come up behind closed doors, but since it's not relevant to plot we simply haven't seen it yet.
