Why the hell would they make pie-shaped bombs in the first place?

The pirates (particularly the captain) know just how ridiculously dangerous those pies are cause they're not even pies - they're bombs. So why did they sell one to Squidward just for money??
Greed, simple as that. They just wanted Squidward's money.
If SpongeBob didn't eat the pie, then what was he smelling on his breath that was similar to cherry/grape/blueberry?
Maybe one of the activities was eating jam or fruit salad or something.
Why would Squidward present the pie to Mr. Krabs instead of giving it to SpongeBob, whom it was for?
Because there's no way Mr. Krabs would let him off the hook unless he had evidence Squidward "made" a gift for SpongeBob.
Why does Squidward keep insisting he didn't know that the pie was a bomb? He was well aware of it since when the pirates had flat out told him so.
It's just like with the greed thing above. When he offered to buy one, they claimed they were just kidding about them being bombs.
So why CAN'T Squidward buy a gift for SpongeBob?
Because you must make it yourself. Krabs flat-out says it when Squidward notes he’ll buy SpongeBob a gumball.
If SpongeBob actually did explode, then wouldn't those chunks of sponge immediately grow back into new bodies because SpongeBob is an invertebrate?
Maybe Squidward doesn't know about SpongeBob's biology.

SpongeBob tells Robot Krabs that the rule was "never speak the formula", but earlier he said the rule was "only discuss the formula with Mr. Krabs". Which is it? Never speak or only speak with Krabs?
