    The Prophecy of Athena's failure
  • There's mention of a prophecy (one that is believed to be false btw) that states Athena (reincarnated as Sienna) will fail, resulting in the end of the world due to Hades and Poseidon warring with each other. So why are there those who think killing her will avert this, rather than - realistically speaking - accelerate the catastrophe!? Are they thick in the head or what!?
    • This is even dumber because they are (sort of) part of Greek Mythology! A mythology known for Self-Fulfilling Prophecy. The most likely reason for Athena to fail is not having her knights serving her / being forced to fight her own knights. So they’re basically playing right into Hades and Poseidon’s hands here, and frankly they should know it.
    • To be fair, given that this is the Sanctuary arc we're talking about, and that Saga killed the real Pope and impersonating him in one of his episodes it's safe to say that he is more concerned with covering his tracks/maintaining power than the actual prophecy and the upcoming Holy War. Is it smart? No. Should the other Gold Saints know or at least suspect something? Some already do. But let's be honest, how much smarter was the original series about Athena's absence in the Sanctuary? With Kurumada wanting the non-traitorous Gold Saints to believe that the Pope had the real Athena... all hidden and seemingly with no one allowed to even see her? During thirteen years? Even the Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary movie had to add a fake Athena to cover that major plothole.
