Disproportionate Expelling?

  • How could anyone make it through Rainbow High with the rule that if you fail a project, you’re automatically expelled? Such a rule would make it unable for struggling students to learn from their mistakes, because their recent bad grade has gotten them kicked out.
    • Meta, but I think it's just so the show can have more drama. It definitely wants to be defined by character-driven drama, why not add a stupid rule that no school would have?

What type of school is this?

  • Rainbow High is stressed to be a school for fashion and the arts, all the classes they take have to do with fashion and the arts, the students and staff alike are affiliated with backgrounds with fashion and the arts, but they have a football team. And the inverse of the "underfunded art department" trope isn't in play here, the football team seems to be well-funded. The Cheer line also shows there's a sports field. Huh? It feels really out of place and tacked-on.
    • It likely meant to be a school that focuses more on fashion, design, and arts but it's still a regular school with other types of classes, not unlike some performing arts schools.

Jade and Bella's friendship? Or is it more?

  • Meta, but... are Jade and Bella dating? The creators clearly know that Jella is the most popular ship, and I understand why they can't confirm it in the show if they are together, but why not clear it up online? It could get rid of the accusations that they're Bait-and-Switch Lesbians.
    • Shadi Petosky confirmed that Darling was meant to be Apple’s “prince” as revealed in Dragon Games a few years after the franchise ended. Unfortunately although LGBTQ+ representation is less of a taboo nowadays, there’s still a presence of disapproving Moral Guardians. It’s likely the writers would clear it up outside the series if they fail to. Unless Jade crushing on River briefly was supposed to joss it... or Jade was crushing on Bella the entire time, and both cases are supposed to show she’s bisexual.

The Finale

  • Runaway show finale. Stunning, amazing, impactful... but what the heck is Stella (another first-year) doing in the audience? Shouldn’t she be getting read, or in backstage with Daria and Sheryl?
