    Why suppress Gundams?

  • Delling goes on a bizarre rant about the evils of Gundams, and how anyone who makes or uses them is a "witch" who must be exterminated. But... why? As far as we see, there's nothing special about Gundams besides their higher combat stats and habit of killing their pilots. Especially since it started out as medical technology, wouldn't it make more sense to just ban it for weapons? And it's not just Delling's wank, because the world was willing to create an entire organization dedicated to suppressing them. We don't have that for nukes in the real world.
    • It's possibly because the GUND format has more potential as a medical science than as a weapons platform, and it's explicitly intended to make space travel more accessible to a larger number of humans by reducing the health risks. Lowering the barrier to leave Earth would break the class barrier between Earthians and Spacians and deprive Spacians of their source of cheap labor.
    • The show makes it clear that Delling is ideologically opposed to the use of weaponry that kills its own users, because that essentially makes soldiers like him disposable resources to operate Gundams. He just went out banning GUND format entirely because he knew that if he let that technology stay around, it would inevitably be appropriated into military technology again.

Why Did Delling Even Try To Bar Suletta From The School?

  • It's eventually revealed Delling has been working in secret with Prospera to create Quiet Zero. To complete it, they need to keep recording data from the Aerial, which is why Prospera sent Suletta to Asticassia in the first place. So why did Delling try to undermine his own secret plan by getting Suletta expelled and the Aerial disposed of? You could say he was trying to keep up appearances since the other members of the council would suspect him if he just let a Gundam be for no reason, but he pushes so hard, even saying "I say it's a Gundam, so that's final". He also tried to void Miorinne's betrothal to Suletta even though that was entirely beneficial to the plan.
    • Has Delling been working with Prospera the entire time? Or did she approach him after Miorinne and Suletta won their right to continue, and she convinced him they could work together? Delling's bodyguard seems pretty jumpy around Prospera if she's a long-time ally.

Why Did The Laser Not Get Destroyed?
  • It is mentioned that the Spacians would still try to exploit the Earth. While they lost a massive number of ships and mobile suits from the Quiet Zero incident, plus a lot of financial support thanks to the Benerit Group. But the laser itself can be enough to threaten the Earth to submission. Would it make better sense to destroy it as well, rather than just shut it down? Would they just reactivate and use it again when they have the chance?
    • The laser cannon was constructed under the guise of a civilian energy transmission system. It’s mentioned that the Space Assembly League and Peil were planning to fire it on Quiet Zero only once while claiming an accidental power discharge as a cover story to the public. The second time they tried to fire it was out of desperation to prevent Miorine from selling off the Benerit Group’s assets to Earth. When that failed thanks to Suletta and Eri’s efforts, the League and Peil lost any chance at maintaining plausible deniability from using the weapon again.
    • And? What stops anyone from using it again? Just because the Space League can no longer fire it without getting political flak does not mean no one can use it again after reactivating it. Someone should have it dismantled, at the very least.
    • While Spacians aren't exactly innocent of oppressing Earthians, for the most part they prefer to exploit Earth than actively oppress it. There's little if any reason for them to turn the laser on Earth. It's not even clear if it can be used in such a manor.

    Why Go With Killing Everyone?
  • So why did Delling order for the soldiers of Cathedra to kill everyone at Vanadis in the Prologue, instead of just arresting them and exposing their crimes to the public? It seems like a massive overreaction that, if there were any survivors, would bite him in the ass. Gund-Format technology, despite its military applications, doesn't seem to warrant massacring an entire space colony in cold blood.
    • If Delling's goal was to completely wipe out Gund format than he would need to kill everyone. So long as someone who knows about Gund, even if it's incomplete knowledge, still lives theres always the risk of it being recreated. This is proven by the two survivors we see in the show.

    Blade Antenna Design Choices
  • Why do some mobile suits have larger blade antennae than others, or more than one antenna? If duels are resolved when one pilot breaks the other’s antenna, why don’t all suits have the shortest, thickest antenna permitted by dueling regulation? Why give your opponents a larger target with an enormous, ornamental blade antenna?

  • And for that matter, why do mobile suits have blade antennae, or heads at all? I’m by no means an aerodynamicist, but I’m pretty sure that when designing flying craft, engineers need to prioritize cutting weight and making everything as sleek as possible. A solely decorative head would probably be a no-go, as would a long, flimsy component that juts out from the main body of the craft. The existence of suits like the MSJ-121 Demi Trainer (the suit piloted during the training exercise in the episode “Unseen Trap”), which lack any blade antennae whatsoever, demonstrates that external blade antennae are not necessary for the functionality of mobile suits. So why do mobile suits have them?

    • The head is primarily Rule of Cool but you could justify it as a sensor array. And having a large one is probably an expression of confidence in your product, whereas hiding it could be seen as cowardice, as if the mobile suit isn't capable of avoiding damage.

    Breaking the Dueling Committee’s Regulations
  • How are the Earthians able to bring mobile suits that don’t meet the dueling committee’s regulations into the Rumble Ring? It seems like ensuring that students don’t die in duels and preventing high-power weapons from piercing the shell that keeps the air in should be top priorities for the dueling committee. Why isn’t there any sort of pre-duel protocol in place to double-check that suits are safe for mock combat?
    • Didn't Sophie break into the Rumble Ring rather than signing on officially? If not it's possible she was able to hack her Gundam to disable the duelling safety program (Shaddiq removes it from his allies mobile suits at one point so it's possible to remove).

    Discarding Mobile Suit Weapons
  • Why do so many mobile suit pilots toss their weapons aside rather than resheathe them? What if they need those weapons later in the fight? For the Earthians in particular, who are purportedly extremely poor, discarding costly weapons after a single use seems almost out of the question.
    • Mobility most likely, carrying an empty weapon is going to slow you down and the Earthians are focused on surviving the current engagement, not saving resources in the long term. Plus rule of cool.

    Quiet Zero and Aerial
  • The purpose of Quiet Zero appears to be to link all Permet technology on the planet into a single network which Ericht can then inhabit, giving her her freedom. Given that she's able to operate an entire gundam independantly though why not just create a cyborg body for her and let her live as a human? Is Prospera going to extreme lengths unnecessarily and delaying her daughter's independence for the sake of revenge?

    Permet Missiles
Given that the Gund format and its ability to control other devices is known why would the fleet fire a bunch of easily hacked missiles at Quiet Zero, enough to destroy their entire fleet when they're turned back on themselves. Why not probe the defences first, or at least make sure you have effective counter measures?

    Fencing
Why does Suletta know how to fence? Doesn't seem like there would be much overlap between that and using a beam sabre in a mobile suit.
