Headscratchers / Mario Party DS Anti Piracy

Go To

  • It's implied that, in this world, the anti-piracy measures were created by one member of the development team who was acting against their bosses' wishes. If that's the case, why did these measures get left in the game? Did no one see that any of this was still in the game files?
    • Given the Japanese message from Hudson in the Host Hoedown screen the team definitely felt the measures were excessive, and the dev probably would have buried the files so as to hide them but still get the game shipped with them. Probably claiming that they were deleted, but in reality were merely inaccessible until Joey uncovered them.
  • Why is D.J. Hallyboo called a "personalized" host? I know it's a reference to the "Every copy of Super Mario 64 is personalized" memes, but what does that mean here? Does that mean that everyone who pirated MPDS would have their own, unique host character?
    • Maybe it's simply that he was "personally" created by that rogue developer to deal with pirates. Because, to that developer, It's Personal.
  • In the Host Hoedown minigame, when the word "criminal" starts moving around, why can't you just continue writing the word as normal? The outline moves back to the middle of the screen several times, so it would line up with what you wrote very quickly.
    • It's unannounced and designed to throw the accused off-balance in a whole psychological barrage. If your first instinct is that's still going through the lines and won't stop you from winning, well, you're not the kind of player the programmer had in mind.
  • So about that Ambiguously Human, Toad-mask wearing cop... what is he? In-Universe, is he actually supposed to be a Toad in the real world, or just a guy cosplaying one?
