• A minor issue, to be sure, but why on earth did Carlisle only have one copy of his dissertation, which was said to be his life's work? Surely it would have been sensible to have at least one paper copy, or to have it saved on another computer.
  • It could be an extension of his sheer arrogance that he thought he didn't need to back it up because he reasoned that he would "never" be so careless as to lose it.
