• Why is Mayor Vaughn still in office? Granted, it's not unheard of for terrible politicians to get re-elected, but surely someone who kept Amity's beaches open when there was a killer shark in the area would have been booted out at the first opportunity? Especially when there were a few deaths involved.
  • Maybe the year before the events of Jaws 2 was the election year, and by then, Vaughn had helped the town bounce back from its bad summer.
• Why does the shark pull the helicopter down into the water? How would a shark realize the helicopter was there to rescue the humans, or even know what a helicopter was in the first place?
  • It doesn't. The vibrations caused by the rotors on the water's surface attracted it to attack the helicopter's floats, to test whether they're something edible.
