Headscratchers / Doctor Who S29 E4 "Daleks in Manhattan"

  • How is it a massive asshole like Diagoras has enough empathy in him to redeem a *Dalek*?'
    • Maybe Diagoras was really somehow a Jerk with a Heart of Gold? Or maybe any human would make a Dalek into something better. In any case, it wasn't explained nearly well enough in the episode.
    • Diagoras suggests he became cold-hearted because of World War 1, so maybe he used to be a good person and would have some repressed empathy for Sec to inherit.
    • More likely it was just having a fuller range of emotions and being able to see the world through anything other than a Dalek's perspective. Sec probably didn't inherit anything from Diagoras' personality.
    • It's hinted throughout the episode that Sec actually has more emotional range than a "regular" Dalek, perhaps part of his design as the Cult of Skaro are noted to be the "out of the box" thinkers, they need other emotions than Rage and Hate, being that his goal was to "save" the Dalek race, you can't save anything if you can't think beyond hate.
