- Yog-Sothoth doesn't eat Olivia because she isn't a virgin, but has no problems eating her father who obviously isn't a virgin either. Shouldn't Hackshaw have burned the tentacles and been inedible to the monster, too?
- Could be that rather than being eaten, Hackshaw was in fact being dragged off to some kind of Fate Worse than Death because, as far as Yog-Sothoth is concerned, You Have Failed Me.
- Could easily be this if we assume that magical rites play by the same rules as in The Dresden Files, which would be quite a stunning coincidence but also very appropriate. Botch the ritual, and the entity being petitioned takes offense.
