Headscratchers / Around the World in Eighty Days

  • Why did Philleas Fogg decide to begin his trip around the world THAT VERY DAY? He could have avoided all (or at least a majority) of the suspicions Detective Fix was accusing him of had he planned the trip accordingly enough to pack properly and it wouldn't have been so recently after the Bank of England was robbed of the £55,000. He's a shallow man who keeps predominantly to himself and his background is ambiguous. (Nobody knew how he acquired his fortune, and he has no family) So he shouldn't have given any Scotland Yard agents the benefit of a doubt that they wouldn't make accusations towards him. Especially since leaving London so abruptly with only a carpet bag is something a fugitive criminal would do.
