Funny / Twitch Plays Pokémon Randomized Chatty Crystal

Go To

  • As with the previous two runs based around this gimmick, the "chatty" dialogue led to a lot of silly moments:
    • At the end of one of the Bug-Catching Contests, the results announcer exclaimed "HOLY SHIT A KAKUNA". It pretty much became an instant meme for the remainder of the run, that got repeated every time a Kakuna appeared. Made doubly funny by the fact that the final Pokémon of the very next Gym Leader, A, was itself a Kakuna.
    • The Daycare Lady at one point describe her services as "Daycare whatever, get it dead then". Made even more absurd by the fact that the main appeal of the Daycare for TPP is to get Pokémon off the team without the risk of accidentally killing them.
    • One swimmer in the middle of the water route between Olivine City and Cianwood City, when talked to, confusedly stated "lost".
    • After taking the quiz at the Dragon's Den, AAAALK' simply exclaimed "damn". Cue the happy jingle indicating JUANA's resounding success.
    • Despite gaining access to Mt. Moon as soon as Day 6, in which the final battle against BABA is located, the Voices instead decided to focus on other sidequests, even challenging the Elite 4 a few times, and on multiple occasions getting close to Mt. Moon before eventually deciding to turn back. It wasn't until Day 9 that they finally decided to confront BABA, who very appropriately concluded the battle by exclaiming "FINALLY".
    • On Day 7, the game crashed during a visit to Silph Co. The stream operator forgot to restart the "chatty" controller along with the game; as a result, when the game resumed, every single NPC had their dialogue consisting solely of the word "ERROR".
    • When Evan was defeated in the Silver Cave, he simply and bluntly stated "oops".

  • The initial randomization didn't handle levels quite right, which led to BABA, the rival battle in Sprout Tower, sending out a Lv.41 Gengar, and !12rtyhaszs, the first Gym Leader, to open with a Lv.96 Espeon. JUANA's own team had barely broken double digits at that point.
    • Something similar happened with the rival battle in Azalea City. It should normally have been a battle against AJDNNW, but the game couldn't properly read the data for his teams due to formatting errors, and thus defaulted to the next Trainer... Azure, who proceeded to send out a Lv.100 Walrein.

  • After Cff((t( evolved from a Shinx to a Magnemite, its next level up made it go backwards from Lv.15 to Lv.12 due to the different growth rates of the two species not being handled properly, and as such tried to learn its entire moveset in reverse, successively trying to learn Work Up, Charge Beam, Synthesis, Thunder Punch, Recover, Thunderbolt, Protect, Taunt, Thunder, Horn Leech, Spark, and Memento.

  • The initial visit to the Ecruteak Dance Theater went so awry that the Voices pretty much deemed the place cursed.
    • The first Kimono Girl that was interacted with immediately crashed the game before the battle could even begin, leaving the chat to wait for over an hour in front of a black screen.
    • After the game was reloaded, JUANA went to talk to a second Kimono Girl. The battle opened with glitched text, before stating her name to be "UTE 35", with a team of six fainted Pokémon. JUANA's palette turned red, more of the same glitched text appeared, and "UTE 35" sent out a burnt Monferno named Absol with a health bar longer than the entire screen. Then as soon as "FIGHT" was selected, the battle ended. All the while, she showed up in the overlay's DexNav as "Leader éBneert", with a team of ten Pokémon.
    • JUANA then went to talk to a third Kimono Girl, which caused the exact same thing to happen: same glitched text, same "UTE 35" name, same burnt Monferno named Absol, same "Leader éBneert with ten Pokémon in the DexNav, same immediate ending of the battle.
    • Finally, JUANA talked once again to the first Kimono Girl. This time, the game didn't crash, and the battle started properly, with no glitched text, an actual name for the Trainer, and a team of three Pokémon... however the overlay immediately broke completely, coming back only a few seconds later with the DexNav displaying her name as "Kimono Girl 999999999999999999999 é E ä é E ä P ₽~♀~P'~"note . Much more concerning however was the fact that she sent out a Pokémon named "?????" with a grayscale Kimono Girl as its sprite and a slightly too long HP bar, which seemed straight out of a creepypasta. Despite being only Lv.2, it proceeded to somehow one-shot JUANA's Lv.31 Combusken using Gust, before the game crashed once more.
      • This last crash brought up a screen stating that "This Game Pak is designed only for use on the Game Boy Roloc.", while the DexNav appeared to turn into a radio player playing the now memetic "Born to Lose".

  • After Ditto had its initial Balance Buff reverted, leveling up caused its HP stat to underflow, which conferred it an additional 65500 HP.

  • After finally unlocking the RaccAttack emote, the chat was eager to try it out, as it is something of a favourite among TPP players. It turned out to be Self-Destruct.
  • During a grinding session on Day 9, Chatot declared "sorry" in text-to-speech right before Chatter selected this very move.

  • The printing mechanic returned from Gauntlet Crystal, letting players print Pokédex entries as they pleased. As a printing session was taking place, the printer however randomly started printing the Diploma from the original Chatty Crystal run. Cue players claiming they had succeeded in completing the Pokédex.

  • Soon after Milotic evolved from Shellder, it gained ten whole levels at once from defeating a single Sandslash, due to the difference in level growth curve between the two species.

  • The chat spent quite a while in Pallet Town grass searching for a rare Roserade encounter. When they finally encountered one, it proceeded to use Whirlwind, immediately ending the battle.
    • Later, in the same patch of grass, the chat searched for another rare encounter, this time Wigglytuff. When it finally showed up, it used Perish Song, causing it to faint automatically after three turns.

  • The Focus Band item is supposed to activate whenever a Pokémon is about to faint, leaving them with a single HP. However, it didn't quite work as intended here; in fact, BBBBLLlrk, the Entei from Gauntlet Crystal, was equipped with a focus band, which on two separate battles it appeared in activated a first time despite it still having a third of its health left, then activated a second time... with it fainting anyway.

  • The initial Elite 4 posed little trouble to the Voices, as JUANA had a fairly powerful team and the randomizer gave each Elite 4 members a fair share of very low-threat Pokémon (♀♀R, who was arguably the toughest member in the original Chatty Crystal, notably had to deal with a team that included Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff, Makuhita, and Magikarp). Then came A, whose team not only was about 30 levels above the other members, but also included X, the Blissey from Burning Red, at a whopping Lv.99 and a particularly nasty moveset to deal with. As it proceeded to put a sudden stop to the current attempt, the song "X Gon' Give It To Ya" started blasting in the background. From that point onwards, said song played every time X was sent in battle, including when it showed up again as part of Cyan's rematch team, with the DexNav even turning into a radio player for the occasion.

  • The chat spent a lot of time hunting for Phancero, as its location did not appear in the Pokédex, going after Legendaries and evolving various Ghost- or Flying-types in the hope that the mysterious bird would finally make its appearance. It got to the point where they actually gave a newly-caught Eevee the nickname "PHANCERO", just so they could pretend they finally found it.

  • The Battle Tower was modified so that the opponents battled inside it would be picked from a selection of seven different past Hosts, but for some reason the RNG seemed to really favour ACCPPQ from Theta Emerald EX, which the chat did take notice of and find quite a bit of amusement in. She ended up being the opponent of a third of all Battle Tower battes, including 4 out of 7 of the very first set of battles fought there... much to the dismay of the developer responsible for the feature itself.
    (ACCPPQ appears a second time)
MyRattata: ... I promise you it's NOT JUST HER
    (ACCPPQ appears a third time)
    MyRattata: i swear
MyRattata: THERE'S NOT EVEN JUST 1 MAY
    (ACCPPQ appears a fourth time)
    MyRattata: SERIOUSLY

  • MARINA from Metronome Sapphire made her return as the final secret opponent of the run, and once more challenged the Voices to test their luck in a Metronome-only match, the purely random nature of which again led to several notable highlights:
    • Throughout the run, a few players would sometimes look up the various Hosts' Pokémon in the Chatty Crystal code in order to determine what their moveset were and post it in the chat. One of said players helpfully provided the movesets for MARINA's Pokémon during this battle as well:
      Melia_Antiqua: METRONOME, NO_MOVE, NO_MOVE, NO_MOVE
    • Of course, it wouldn't be a true Metronome battle if RNG did not end up picking its share of self-harming moves:
      • During the first attempt at defeating MARINA, her Golduck ended up using Self-Destruct, taking itself down and its opponent with it. On the second attempt, the same two Pokémon faced off again, only this time it was JUANA's Milotic that used Memento, sacrificing itself to lower Golduck's stats.
      • Later on during the second attempt, MARINA's Heliolisk was almost taken down... then it used Explosion, once again taking its opponent down with it (which still had most of its heath left, making it particularly unlucky). Made funnier by the fact that it did so while being infatuated with said opponent.
      • A lesser example would be MARINA's Heliolisk using Pain Split during the first attempt, unsurprisingly enough in a situation that made it heal its opponent by giving up half of its own HP.
    • MARINA's Milotic had its Metronome land on Milk Drink, a move that it originally didn't know (and couldn't know, as it is not part of Milotic's learnset), but that JUANA's own Milotic did know thanks to the randomization.
      • It then proceeded to use Meteor Mash the very next turn, which was one of the moves normally known by the Excadrill it was currently facing, which prompted comments in the chat about how MARINA's Milotic was just stealing JUANA's own team's moves.
        SolarisSect: THAT'S OUR MOVE
    • JUANA's Moltres, which had a reputation in chat for being a "dancing chicken" due to it knowing Quiver Dance and earlier on Teeter Dance, had Metronome very appropriately land on Petal Dance.
    • JUANA's Salamence had Metronome pick Taunt, which prevents the opponent from using status move. Thing is, Metronome is considered a status move (due to being neither physical nor special in nature), leaving MARINA's Chatot with no other option than to use Struggle instead.
    • MARINA had a particularly lucky turn during which her Chatot was protected from a Toxic attack by an earlier Safeguard, before its Metronome landed on the One-Hit Kill move Horn Drill, that hit despite having a 70% chance of missing... which hardly mattered as its opponent only had 2 HP left anyway.
    • The first attempt ended with MARINA and JUANA both down to their last Pokémon, with MARINA's being revealed to be the powerful Legendary Dragon-type Latios... which immediately procedded to get absurdly lucky by having Metronome pick Draco Meteor, aka the most powerful Dragon-type move in the game, not only benefiting from same-type attack bonus but also being super-effective on JUANA's Salamence, the latter's full HP bar completely depleting before it even got a chance to attack.
    • During the second attempt, JUANA was lucky enough to have Metronome land on One-Hit Kill moves twice, with Chatot using Guillotine and Moltres using Fissure respectively... unfortunately, those also happened to specifically be her only two Pokémon to be below Lv.100, causing the moves to automatically fail against MARINA's higher-leveled Pokémon.

  • The final mandatory objective of the game was to retrieve the Virtual Boy, a decoration for the player's bedroom. Upon finally setting it up and interacting with it, the entire palette of the game switched to red and black, imitating the infamous look of Virtual Boy games. And no, this did not wear off upon exiting the room: the entire game from that point onwards could be played this way, and players indeed elected to keep the Virtual Boy palette active until the run ended.

  • Before the run ended, the Voices wanted to have on last Metronome battle against Copycat SS with the Virtual Boy palette on, just for fun. On the way there, they paused to print some Pokédex entries, and ended up spending almost ten whole minutes just spamming Chatot's cry from there just to hear it read random chat messages in text-to-speech.
