• Trimagasi eating the messy food like a pig, and scoffing at Goreng's disgust. There's also his smirk when Goreng decides to save an apple for later, knowing fully well that hoarding food after the platform leaves your floor will result in the entire room and its inhabitants being incinerated or frozen alive.
• Trimagasi's story about how he got sent to the Hole involved him being enamored with commercials for knife-sharpening. When Goreng correctly guesses the name of the product that Trimagasi was fixated on, the latter asks if he saw the commercial too.
• As Goreng chats with Trimagasi, someone above them jumps down and kills themselves. Goreng is understandably horrified, while Trimagasi just hopes that the prisoner was a big drinker so that they'll have more wine soon. He then asks if Goreng will still read Don Quixote to him tonight.
• Imoguiri tries constantly to reason with the people below to ration their food so everyone gets their share. No one takes her seriously. That is, until Goreng threatens to shit in their food.
• Baharat pleads to a couple above him and Goreng to help him up, as God apparently told him he's destined to escape thanks to the help of two kind souls. They play along, only for the woman to shit in his face and send him falling back down.
• When one of Baharat's old friends sees him again, enacting his plan with Goreng, he wonders if this is him, a black man, "serving a white man".
• As Goreng and Baharat are trying to enforce their rationing and protest, we see that one prisoner chose to bring their surfboard with them. They cower behind it when threatened.
