Even a series as dark as Shi ni Aruki has its share of funny moments.

  • Chapter 1:
    • When the detectives are questioning Tokiko due to her Incriminating Indifference, Miyuki jumps into the conversation to glare and yell at them. Her fierce look makes the rest of the family avert their eyes and silently agree that their older sister is terrifying... except Tokiko, who just looks smugly pleased about the whole thing.
    • After Rina falls into the elevator shaft, she asks why her father fell in, too. Hiroaki's response is to say that Rina was heavy, so she angrily tells her dad to shut up, regretting she even asked.
  • In Chapter 5, Akiyama offers a hospitalized Tokiko a table full of desserts, but she bluntly points out that an injured person wouldn't be able to eat all that.
  • Chapter 11 shows Professor Kisaragi's office. She's such a heavy smoker that she covered the smoke detector in duct tape so it wouldn't go off constantly.
    • Immediately afterward, Akiyama asks Aoya and Tokiko to have a seat on Kisaragi's couch... which is covered in junk. They ask where they can sit.
  • In Chapter 15, when Sou visits Tokiko, he notes that Tokiko seems pretty difficult to get along with and asks if she gets along with her friends at school. Tokiko confirms that she does, prompting him to apologize and say that she's clearly a kind girl who must have a lot of friends. Tokiko gives him a judging Blank Stare before awkwardly continuing the conversation.
  • The joke page at the end of Chapter 15 lists the surviving characters' femininity, and some of the rankings are hilarious.
    • None of the surviving female characters — Tokiko, Natsuki, Ai and Kisaragi — have more than one star in Cooking.
    • Sou Aoya has an average three stars in Cooking, but five stars in "Apple Bunnies Carving" and "Omurice Message Writing".
    • Ryouta, the junior detective, has three stars in "That Feeling Like You Can't Leave Him Alone," and "Scared of Corpses-ness."
    • Ai has five stars in "Little Girliness," and is rated for that twice.
    • Tokiko has five stars in "Eyelashes."
    • Akiyama is the clear winner, with five stars in Cooking, Sweets Loving and Housework Doing.
  • Chapter 16 seemingly ends with a Gory Discretion Shot for Natsuki's death, with her portrait in the 3x3 grid at the end of the chapter being shaded to show that her fate is unknown. The next chapter opens to reveal... that a bird pooped near her, and Tokiko mocking her for nearly getting shat on.
  • In the second volume's extra chapter, a middle school-aged Tokiko takes Natsuki's indoor shoes hostage and threatens to drop them off the roof if Natsuki doesn't return Tokiko's father's book. Natsuki complies, and Tokiko drops them anyway, resulting in the two having a prank war with each other. Of course, this becomes Harsher in Hindsight after present-day Tokiko pulls off a more serious hostage situation.
