* During World War II the USS William D. The Iowa had to turn hard to avoid the torpedo, and for the rest of the war, the William D. Porter had to put up with every other US Navy ship they sighted signalling: "Don't shoot! We're Republicans!"

* Opinions vary on whether it qualifies as a disaster (no one was hurt, but over 10% of global trade was disrupted and ships were forced to sail all the way around Africa like it's the 1700s), but the Ever Given getting stuck in the Suez Canal certainly provided a lot of amusement for people on Twitter and Tumblr. Made worse when it was prematurely announced the ship was free... [[EpicFail only for it to immediately get stuck again.]]

At the end of key animation production for this particular film, the chef was none other than Miyazaki himself. * During World War 2, the Germans spent a good deal of time and trouble building a wooden decoy "town" complete with wooden housing estates, wooden factories with dummy (but smoking) chimneys, wooden cars in the streets, etc. The intent, to divert Allied air-raids away from genuine targets, was slightly subverted in that the only Allied bomber it attracted was a single RAF Mosquito which made a low-level run and dropped a wooden bomb on the town. But the story is a little fishy when [[FridgeLogic you start to think about it.]]

* During UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, UsefulNotes/NaziGermany reannexed [[UsefulNotes/DepartementalIssues Alsace and Moselle]] from UsefulNotes/{{France}} and many street/square names in local cities and villages got germanized or were outright modified. Very often the main streets were renamed "UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler Straße". One of said streets to be renamed after Hitler in Mulhouse was named "Rue du Sauvage" ("Savage Man Street") before, and naturally that fact didn't go unnoticed among the locals who had a good laugh about it, and it rapidly prompted German authorities to give another name to the street.

* In Belgium, sculptor Joseph Geefs was commissioned by the church to create a sculpture of [[{{Satan}} Lucifer]], called "''L’ange du mal''" as part of a greater piece on good triumphing over evil. However, the church thought [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:L%27ange_du_mal_(Joseph_Geefs)_cropped.jpg the final product]], completed in 1842 and installed in 1843, was "too sublime", i.e. Lucifer was [[HotAsHell too sexy]] and would tempt young girls. So they commissioned Joseph's brother Guillaume to make a replacement. Said replacement is called "''Le gènie du mal''" (The Genius of Evil), or "The Lucifer of Liège", in 1848, [[https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lucifer_Liege_Luc_Viatour_new.jpg and is even sexier]].
