Despite being one of the creepiest, darkest and most depressing Shoot 'Em Up series, R-Type doesn't shy away from making a few jokes.
R-Type Final
- The writers seemed to have quite a bit of fun with some of the ships:
- The B-1C3 Amphibian III, a Bydo-based ship with regenerative abilities being unpopular because of its tendency to drain all of their Life Energy, and the follow-up line is at least somewhat amusing.
Amphibian III description: Final unit developed with Bydo self-repair ability. Repair speed and energy efficiency were emphasized in its design. Compared to the B-1C2, a 20% gain in repair speed and a 35% gain in efficiency were achieved, but it was unpopular with pilots as it totally drained their energy. Dead pilots cannot be regenerated.- The R-9W series of ships (which the aforementioned Sweet Memories ship in the series' Nightmare Fuel page is part of), known for their feared cockpits... which have a test-tube shaped canopy, complete with volume markers.
R-9WB Happy Days description: Another risky test of a new Wave Cannon. It has the ‘test tube’ canopy which pilots seem to dread.- The scientists insisting that the BX-2 Platonic Love is powered by love. Complete with a heart-shaped motif.
- For extra amusement, the specific wording (at least in the English EU version) is that the "developers" insist that... which could mean the in-universe developers of the shop, or a fourth-wall breaking gag about the game developers who designed the ship.
R-Type Final 2: Pre-release
- The fact that Final 2 was first teased during 2019 April Fools' Day thrown in Shocking Moments on even many longtime fans, and even there were several fans dismissed Final 2 as a joke, which Granzella later refuted.
- One of the complaints about Granzella's developer streams? Their camera screens are too small. Small as in, covering only a very small portion at the corner of the screen. Woe to any person that tried to look closely in what items the developers themselves are showing.
R-Type Final 2: Post-release
- You can actually change the name of the title screen. Have fun with nonsensical names like Reboot Tactics Fantasia, R-Type R-Type R-Type, or even something Animesque like R-Type Final Z.
- The titles of the levels can also be changed, albeit only in score attack mode. Hilarity Ensues with level titles like 'Our budget ended here', 'Ram Ranch is Under Siege', and 'Ah sh¡t, here we go again'.
