• Leigh ends one of his early letters with the following postscript:

• He decides to name his journal after Mr. Henshaw because it's better than starting the entries with "Dear Piece of Paper."
• One of the journal entries is about how Bonnie has some guests over, and a few of them have brought infants in baby carriers. Leigh notes that he'd rather stay in his room with the sleeping babies than go out and subject himself to inane commentary about how much he's grown and what grade he's in now.
• Leigh's comment about how he thinks the thief's mom probably makes really boring lunches, including "that bread that tastes like Kleenex".
  • What's more, a lot of teachers have reported their kids found this part funny due to comparing bread to Kleenex.
