Despite the grim image that Darkthrone is known for, the individual band members are known for having rather goofy personalities in real life. Fenriz's interviews in particular can be hilarious:
- Various remarks on this interview
about drum sound, such as comparing a common drum beat to Hello Kitty, saying not practicing safe street crossing is "asking for a spanking", and so on. - In this interview promoting Hate Them, he claims to hate the people who designed the subway cars in Oslo because the seats face each other. Becomes Hilarious in Hindsight when he speculates what would happen if it happened in New York City.
- Fenriz plays "Rock and Roll Gas Station".
- His constant reactions and Deadpan Snarker moments in the documentary Until the Light Takes Us, the most famous being how he speaks about Peaceville's reaction to the A Blaze in the Northern Sky album.WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! A blast from the past! This is so cold!
- In September 2016, Fenriz was unexpectedly and unwillingly elected as a backup town councilman in his hometown of Kolbotn, Norway, after a "campaign" that consisted of a picture of him holding his cat specifically asking people to not vote for him. He apparently received a call asking if he wanted to be in the running and accepted the position with the expectation that nobody would vote for him. He was wrong.
