    Book 1: Minimum Wage Magic

  • Opal's rented car comes with loud ads. Sybil reminds her that she can buy a premium upgrade.

    Book 2: Part-Time Gods

  • At one point, Opal ends up in a four-way conversation with Nick, Sybil, and the DFZ. Sybil can't hear the DFZ and Nick can't hear either of them, leading to everyone assuming Opal is talking to them when she's talking to someone else.
  • "That's my magic potato!"

    Book 3: Night Shift Dragons

  • Opal thinks about how the DFZ is always in her head, and wonders if she watches her pee. The DFZ responds, out loud, "I don't watch you pee!"
  • Opal tries to summon the Spirit of Dragons using... alcohol. Cheap alcohol. Opal is worried because she'd be insulted if someone tried to summon her in this way, but she has barely finished setting up when Amelia is there, drinking her offerings.
  • The DFZ proudly says that she has summoned her priests to act as a distraction for the Gameskeeper. Then she sheepishly admits she was able to get a grand total of three on short notice.
The DFZ: Cut me some slack, I'm a young god!
  • When Opal calls her mother for help with the arena fight, she discovers that her mother is currently flying through Rentfree with a squad of attack helicopters, despite admitting she has no idea where she's going.
Sybil: Wow. I see where you get your recklessness from now.
  • When Opal's mother does arrive, Opal is rather annoyed that her bleeding-edge combat armor is also exceedingly fashionable. And she reloads her gun with the ease of a lifelong soldier, because she does everything perfectly.
