All we know about the characters of Mary and Ted (Greg's wife and son, respectively) is what we glean from Greg's full flashback in Harmonde. And yet, we do see just what kind of people they were and how much they cared for one another. Ted is more obvious: The balls on this five-year old kid for taking a bullet for his mom! Even though Greg talks about Ted a few points in the game, he doesn't really give any hints towards Mary's character. But pay attention to the scene. Who is Kartikeya aiming at? Greg. Who takes the hit? Mary. As shaken, bereft, and terrified as she was, Mary was not running for her life. It became evident in Ted being shot that this stranger with a huge gun was not looking to intimidate; he wanted to erase them all. And so she shielded Greg with her body to give him even the slimmest chance of surviving this encounter. They were a family that died protecting each other, so we can be sure that Greg would have done the same for either of them... if Kartikeya hadn't throttled him and thrown him as far as he did.
