Fridge Brilliance

  • Given that Apple is a "friendship model" designed to be friends with a human, you might wonder if her relationship with the Kid is genuine or just a soulless computer acting out its programming. But Zeus's backstory, revealed at the last second of the climax, serves to answer the question: Robot Zeus was supposed to be the robot companion of the original Zeus but betrayed his master for being told he's "just a robot." His story shows that robots can go beyond their programming, for good or ill. So Apple could have moved beyond her robotic imperative to be friends with the Kid and chosen to actually like him for who he was.
  • When Apple wakes up with her head on a new body, she looks at the outfit on the body and says, "I love that dress!" Her use of "that" rather than "this" subtly emphasizes how she's still mentally distanced from this completely different body.
