Fridge Brilliance:

  • Nanny Ogg is astonished that she outlives Granny Weatherwax, though Granny lived a much healthier life: "Always thought I'd be the first to go, what with my drinkin' and suchlike, especially the suchlike." However, from Witches Abroad, we know that Nanny Ogg has some dwarf blood in her. Dwarfs are noted to be heavy drinkers, and live at least twice as long as humans. With that in mind, it's not at all surprising that Nanny outlives Granny.
  • Tiffany refuses to call Geoffrey a witch, but rather invents for him the term "peace-weaver". How do you usually call in English a male witch (outside of wizard)? A warlock. I repeat. A war-lock.
  • The witches (especially Miss Erwig) taking to Geoffrey so quickly after the battle, to the point they have no issue with him taking over Granny's place, even if he did get Tiffany's blessing. Except Tiffany knows by experience *any* traditional witch taking up the steading is going to be under heavy scrutiny by the others, would stress about living up Esme's image, or be worried about others jockeying for the position. Maybe all three as they get sucked into the complicated network of witches. Thus the Vetinari-like solution presents itself: don't have it be a traditional witch *at all* so no real comparison is useful and no one is jealous another witch took the position. And anyone accepting Geoffrey as the genuine article makes the entire point moot...
