• Fridge Brilliance: Combined with a touch of Fridge Horror, Captain Pike's insistence to everyone who mentions it that his promotion to Fleet Captain is "only temporary" takes on a harsher side once you remember that he knows his eventual crippling accident will take place when he's permanently promoted to Fleet Captain. Reminding everyone that the promotion is temporary is almost a way of reassuring himself (and the audience) that it's not his 'time' yet.
