Fridge Brilliance note

  • Anthony Kiedis, dressed as Kurt Cobain, sings the lines "it only hurts when I laugh/gone too fast" in the Dani California video. The significance of that just hit me. For some bonus symbolism, one of the candles in the foreground blows out and the camera lingers on a shot of the smoke rising up.
  • Due to Kiedis's unique style of writing, a lot of their lyrics rely on this. An example would "What could be wetter than an English girl...?" in "Emit Remmus" having a double meaning, also referring to how rainy it is in England as well as the sex between the aforementioned English girl and American man.
  • The chorus of "Around The World" includes the line "You say hello and then I say adieu", which could just be nonsense that happened to sound good... or could be part of the song's running listing cities (or in this case mostly countries) theme. "Adieu" is French for "goodbye", so if you translate to English, that line becomes "You say hello and then I say goodbye", which is almost a reversal of The Beatles' "Hello Goodbye" note : So, they could be making Shout Outs to England and France (countries that otherwise don't come up in the lyrics) by paraphrasing a song by one of the most famous English rock bands in Gratuitous French.
