Fridge is for post-viewing discussion and thus all spoilers are unmarked.

    Fridge Brilliance
  • During each chapter, look closely at the Dark Scarecrows: if you squint you can see that they share vague physical traits with the person whose memory is being accessed, such as Fio's pigtails during Chapter 12.
  • The Cursed God being mistaken for a moose makes sense since in NieR: Automata mooses were one of the few organic animals along with boars that 2B, 9S and A2 could fight, their levels scaling with them. Even if you leveled yourself to 99....so did they. The Cursed God is just the last moose standing.
  • Mama and the Black Birds appearing in the Garden of Benediction's cutscenes seem to be partly for comedic effect, though why would they appear at all in Fio's—ohhhh! Right, the whole event is just a dream within the Cage. Which explains why Mama is seen tussling with the Black Birds: to keep them from messing with Fio's dream.
  • Hina is a Daddy's Girl while Yuzuki is a Momma's Boy. Naturally, the Bedsheet Ghost companions with them correspond to the parent they wish to save.

    Fridge Horror
  • The Cursed God being called a moose actually makes it more terrifying when you realize how dangerous moose actually are.
  • The playable Fio that fights alongside the party members doesn't speak at all in any of her versions because this is the Levania who hasn't gone through all the Character Development to have his Heel Realization, as well as forgetting his My God, What Have I Done? after swapping places with Fio.
    • This one seems to be (mercifully) averted, as Fio's playable versions are now capable of speaking after an update—her being mute previously may have merely been an oversight.
  • Brother Nier being called The World Ender is this, since with him killing the Shadowlord, he all but secured the eventual demise of the human race.
  • Baton of Tender Rains is about a soldier given a healing staff who finds the soldier who abandoned him and his mother. He beats him to an inch of his life, heals him up, then repeats the process. Ladies and gentlemen... Yoko Taro’s version of Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure Diamond Is Unbreakable!
