Fridge / Michiel de Ruyter

  • Fridge Logic: Royals and nobles were keenly aware of their pedigrees, knowing their ancestors from centuries back because these ties were used to justify their claims to rule on. By extension, they tended to know all the people whom they were even remotely related to, since these ties were important for creating alliances. There is no way that Charles II, a first cousin of the Sun King, would not have known he was Louis XIV.
    • One possibility is that he meant it as an insult, "accidentally" skipping over him, though even this falters with Louis XVI not being born yet.
