Mr. Cat exhibits what appears to be Comical Overreacting when Kaeloo yanks out one of his whiskers. Despite being able to take being punched, kicked and beaten into different shapes, he actually gets tears in his eyes and runs around screaming in pain. Cats' whiskers are much more deeply rooted in the body than other hairs and are rich in nerve endings, so he wasn't overreacting, it's just that he was in more pain due to several pain receptors being activated. As for running in different directions, when a cat loses a whisker, it makes it somewhat difficult for the cat to navigate.
Kaeloo makes the Kaeloo doll and the Mr. Cat doll kiss even though everyone could see her, but she prefers to keep her crush on Mr. Cat hidden from public view. Smileyland's culture is almost exactly the same as France's; due to the size of the dolls, and the positioning of their mouths, if anyone asked, she could claim that the dolls were just exchanging a friendly la bise.
Kaeloo pulls out one of Mr. Cat's whiskers. This was Played for Laughs, but when a cat's whiskers are damaged or removed, the cat becomes disoriented, unable to navigate properly, and very frightened.
