Fridge / Junie B. Jones

Fridge Brilliance:

  • At the end of "Beauty Shop Guy", Robert comes to pick up Junie B. and take her to the beauty shop to fix her hair even though she rides the bus home every day. Why? Well, keep in mind, Junie B. gave herself a bad haircut that she had to hide under a bunch of hats until Mrs. found out about the situation and allowed her to wear her devil horn cap for the day. It's likely that Mrs. called the Jones parents off-page to let them know what happened so they could resolve the situation as soon as possible. It's also likely this is why Maxine was waiting for Junie B. when she and her dad showed up; Robert most likely called ahead and arranged an emergency appointment to fix Junie B.'s hair.

Fridge Horror

  • The first book. First, there's the prospect of a five-year-old running around unsupervised in a school building with no adult supervision. Junie B. nearly falls off a chair in the nurse's office. That could have ended badly if she had fallen or ended up with some other injury. Then there's the fact that she calls 911 (she was having a bathroom emergency and the doors were locked) and answers the phone with "I'm alone and all by myself and I need help real bad!" Imagine what her parents would be going through when they got a call that their child didn't come home on the school bus. As her mother puts it, "you had a lot of people very scared."
  • In Turkeys We Have Loved and Eaten (and Other Thankful Stuff) Sheldon mentions that his uncle Vern and aunt Bunny live in the woods to "get away from the law." What did they do to become wanted criminals?
