In "Realpolitik Schtick," Time talks about Ethan Allen being glad for the opportunity to do something besides "attempt to talk to his furniture." It seems like a throwaway reference at first, but becomes far more horrifying when you realize that Allen originally had the ability to communicate with furniture, becoming close friends with many of the articles at Fort Ticonderoga, but gave it up to become the Zeitgeschlaeger. Having betrayed Time for Possibility, then betrayed by Possibility in turn, Allen is essentially alone.
