Fridge / Escape Room (2019)

As a Fridge subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

Fridge Brilliance
  • Danny's falling through the ice is never directly explained or remarked on, everyone is too busy trying to survive to ponder it. He wasn't killed randomly or capriciously, he was killed because he was about to use the lighter to cheat the ice block puzzle. Message: play the game correctly or you won't play at all.
    • Worse, if Ben hadn't decided to be an asshole and just walked out from his smoking spot to hand Danny the lighter, HE could've been the one that goes through the ice instead. Worst case scenario would've been both men meeting each other halfway and BOTH of them going through the ice.
      • It's worth noting that if Ben had died at this point, it would be harder for the other players to survive the hospital puzzle. As Ben points out, the people behind the game were aware that Ben knew sign language. Such knowledge was important for deciphering a clue about which machine they should look for. This means that if Ben wasn't present in this particular room, the others probably wouldn't be able to figure out the solution in time.
      • Unless there were other clues, less specific to Ben, that might've been swapped in to replace the sign language hint. Certainly we never saw any clues that were uniquely specific to Danny, aside from his generic "what are escape rooms like" knowledge that any of the others could've easily googled in preparation for the challenge.
  • Staging the heat-based threat before the cold-based one helped ensure that group members who might've otherwise arrived with jackets would remove any excess layers in the first room, thus denying them protection in the second.
  • Might be a Captain Obvious, but the name of the company, Minos, makes perfect sense when you think about it. Minos was a king of Crete in ancient Greece, and he is responsible for trapping children in the infamous labyrinth to be eaten by the Minotaur. Both are willing to send people to certain death in a maze.

Fridge Horror

  • The escape room starts with Ben trying to leave and the doorknob coming off in his hand, and the others sarcastically tell him to hold onto it. If he had, it possibly could have been used in place of the eight ball doorknob in the upside-down room, which would have saved Amanda.
  • Mike starts freaking out when Jason prepares to use the defibrillators on him, despite having been (relatively) calm up until then. He probably knew that, due to his age and lifestyle, he'd be putting his health at risk and potentially dying if they were used on him. Which simultaneously makes his eventual relenting a Heroic Sacrifice - or Senseless Sacrifice, as it turns out.
