• "Quitter's Inc." may seem like it thrives on Disproportionate Retribution, and by all means, it does. But when one stops to think about it, the whole experience is kind of an allegory for the consequences of smoking. It's almost as though it asks the audience "If you knew you would die after just four more cigarettes, would you quit smoking?"
  • What's more, the harsh punishments dealt to loved ones could act as an allegory for how smoking doesn't just harm the smoker, but also everyone the smoker knows.

The manga/anime

• Initially there's a number of unnamed First Section detectives getting regularly involved with Cat's Eye's heist, but they've disappeared well before the creation of the Special Squad. What happened? Easy: like Toshio, they got in trouble over the continuous failures against Cat's Eye, but unlike Toshio Cat's Eye didn't get out of their way to save them from transfer and demotion.
