Yannick is a 2023 comedy directed by Quentin Dupieux.

Three actors, Sophie (Blanche Gardin), Paul (Pio Marmaï) and William (Sébastien Chassagne) are playing a very boring theatre play. Sophie's character has just told her husband (played by Paul) that she is leaving him for an other man (William's character). Who happens to be in the same house and joins their conversation.

A man named Yannick (Raphaël Quenard) stands up from the audience and interrupts the three actors. He makes a long talk complaining that the play is very bad and fails to make him feel better or make him forget about his own problems.

After a long argument, he threatens everyone with a gun (including the audience) and takes control of the room. He asks for a computer and starts writing a new play.

This film provides examples of:

  • Bolivian Army Ending: As the film is almost ending as the three actors are playing a new play that Yannick wrote, it really ends as the antigang brigade is about to enter the theatre room.
  • Embarrassing Password: Yannick borrows a computer from a man in the audience and asks him for his password. He has ordered him to stay on his seat so the man has to say it loud: vaginal. Yannick says that he is a pervert and asks how he spells it, causing further embarassment. The computer also happens to have a nsfw desktop background, causing Yannick to make more disgusted comments.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Yannick uses someone else's laptop to write a new play. He has William run a text editor for him, then types his text very slowly using only one finger of his left hand (while the other hand is holding his gun). He is offended when Sophie offers to do the typewriting for him.
  • Jerkass: All three actors openly despize Yannick, except when he is threatening them with a gun. Yannick is also quite bad to them, especially whenever they seem to look down on his popular education.
  • Show Within the Show:
    • The play that Yannick interrupts is a Parody of boulevard theatre. It is titled Le Cocu (English: The Cuckold) and consists in needlessly long, repetitive discussions.
    • The other show is a new play that Yannick writes, and has the actors play. It is a poorly written medical drama that runs on The Power of Love.
