Stephanie is a supernatural horror movie directed by Akiva Goldsman, from a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. It stars Frank Grillo, Anna Torv and Shree Cooks.

After a mysterious global crisis, a young girl is left alone to hide from a malevolent power that stalks her home. Her parents eventually return and the struggle begins to save their daughter.

The film had its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival on April 27, 2017. It was released through video on demand on April 17, 2018, by Universal Pictures.


Stephanie contains examples of:

  • Agony of the Feet: After dropping a glass jar, Stephanie accidentally steps on a shard, injuring her foot.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: The real reason Stephanie's parents abandoned her, combined with the fact that she also killed her brother.
  • Cain and Abel: Despite Stephanie having a Big Brother Bully, she's worse than him, having killed Paul before the movie.
  • Companion Cube: Stephanie abuses her toy turtle and her dead brother, Paul, blaming them for her problems.
  • Enfant Terrible: Stephanie, along with several other children with powers.
  • I Have No Daughter!: Right before she kills them, Eric and Jane disown their daughter, seeing her as a monster.
  • Minor Living Alone: Stephanie for the first half of the movie.
  • Neck Snap: Stephanie kills her brother Paul this way, via her telekinetic powers.
  • Self-Made Orphan: In the end, Stephanie kills her parents, not because they abandoned her, but because they returned.

    Stephanie: (coldly) You shouldn't have come back

  • Tomato Surprise: The shadowy monster terrorizing Stephanie? It's Stephanie herself, manifested in telekinetic powers.
