So Long, Mr. Chumps is the 53rd short starring Moe, Larry, and Curly. In it, the Stooges are tasked to find an honest man for a business man, yet, they discover one is in jail for a theft he never did, so they head in there to break him out.

This short provides examples of:

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: At the very end, there's a scene where Moe and Larry are breaking rocks over Curly's head. As a gag, Larry places a real rock on Curly's head, prompting Curly to address the camera, "Hey, that's a real one! I'm no fool!" Such meta moments were actually rare in the Stooges shorts, but it was left in the final film. note
  • Get into Jail Free: The Stooges try their best to get into jail so they can get the honest man they're looking for out.
  • Juggling Loaded Guns: Curly explains the gunman Gyp DaPeople's stick up and as he pulled the latter's trigger, his gun is revealed to be a lighter.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: As the Stooges get their honest man, Pomeroy, out of jail, they find their boss B.O. Davis taken to jail who's revealed to be Loan Wolf Louie, the biggest bond swindler in America; leading to the Stooges to go back into jail after all the trouble they had to go through.
