Tropes for the film:

  • Crystalline Creature: The plot deals with a mysterious assassin in the martial world who is a crystal statue of an ancient, vengeful warrior, under the control of an evil demon brought to life in the presence of human blood. Or that's what it seems, but the truth is the statue legend if fabricated by a real murderer who's using the legend to hide his activities.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: The real life method Chinese 'Slow-slicing' method is shown with Shui-jing, the Damsel in Distress, being subjected to being stripped naked and having a net made of wire mesh coating her entire body, which gets progressively tightened by her tormentors. Accordingly, the mesh can slice her into 480 cubes while alive.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: The Three Devils have no qualms about eating human flesh, and they are in fact ready to cut up the Captured Damsel in Distress, Jade, alive for feasting, even slicing up four pieces of her flesh and about to eat it.
  • Instrument of Murder: The movie has a high-level assassin who wields a pipa made of human bones. When played, unfortunate victims within vicinity end up collapsing and frothing from their mouths, unless their qi level is high enough to resist its power.
  • "Pop!" Goes the Human: The killer has more than one unfortunate human inflating and exploding after having their qi overcharged to excessive levels, with very bloody and graphic results.
