Identity Theft (2009) is a low budget science fiction movie about Matt, who recently won the lottery, that encounters a person that can swap bodies in order to live forever and acquire the wealth of others. He meets this person in a bar, currently inhabiting a Laura's body. The two have a one-night stand, after which our lottery-winner wakes up to find they have exchanged bodies. The person inhabiting Matt's body explains the situation and that there is nothing he can do about it. He finds "Laura's" ID and her home, then must escape Laura's abusive live-in boyfriend. Reading her papers, "she" finds out she is in tremendous debt and wanted by the police. In order to survive, she must get a job as a stripper while she tries to find a way to get "his" body back. Now, she must convince his girlfriend Lisa and best friend Brian who "she" truly is and work with them to get his body and lottery winnings back. Unfortunately, he'd recently dumped Lisa. Lisa is all keen to help, believing the person who stole the body was the one that dumped her, until he lets slip when the body was taken. Brian is no more helpful. Matt/Laura turns to a "witch" to explain a way to get his body back. She even convinces Lisa to help, only to be betrayed. In the end, she murders Matt's body (and the person inhabiting it), as well as Lisa (now inhabiting Colette's body). When tried for murder, she takes the stand and tells the truth. Instead of prison, she goes to an insane asylum. Later, she is released, and goes off with Brian to spend all the money Brian inherited from the murdered Matt.

Identity Theft provides examples of:

  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Matt and Karen wake up in each other's bodies. Later, Rachel and Carrie.
  • Gender Bender: Matt and Karen wake up in each other's bodies.
  • Living Forever Is Awesome: Whoever the original person was that has been jumping from body to body seems to enjoy the fact that they can live forever.
  • This Is Reality: Our body-snatcher explains what happens to Matt (now in Karen's body).
