Contract killer Frank Zimosa has a simple job: to kill two people at the behest of the rich and powerful Jorge Mistrandria. However, what first seems like a trivial payday will soon spiral into a gore-soaked nightmare as Frank finds himself lost in a maze-like hotel, trying to escape Mistrandria’s demonic henchmen who intend to sacrifice him to an ancient evil who feeds on pain and suffering.
Hotel Inferno (2013) is an action-horror splatter film by Necrostorm, shown entirely through Frank’s eyes, and directed and written by Giulio de Santi. It was followed by a series of sequels:
- Hotel Inferno 2: The Cathedral of Pain
- Hotel Inferno 3: The Castle of Screams
- Hotel Inferno 4
- Hotel Inferno 5
- Hotel Inferno 6
Additionally, a spinoff entitled Suite 313 delves deeper into the lore of Lumen Company and Mistrandria.
Tropes:
- Blood from the Mouth: Plenty of it, especially from Frank’s second target—before Frank has even touched him.
- Everything Trying to Kill You: Once Frank learns the truth of his assignment, the rest of Mistrandria’s minions start hunting him down.
- The Faceless: Frank, Frank’s girlfriend, and Jorge are not seen on-camera.
- Fingore: Towards the end of the first movie, Franks right hand is smashed to uselessness, leaving his pinky hanging off at a strange angle. This carries over into the second movie, and Frank cuts off the useless digit while in Hell.
- The Hero Dies: Frank is killed at the end of the first movie; the sequels follow his efforts to escape from Hell.
- Impaled Palm: During one of the fights, Frank gets a screwdriver through his hand.
- Mr. Exposition: Jorge, who intersperses the gory chases and fight scenes with explanations about why all this crazy shit is happening.
- P.O.V. Cam: The story is shown entirely through Frank’s eyes, like an action-horror version of Hardcore Henry.
- Sickening "Crunch!": A lot of bones get broken in the fights. Loudly.
- Splatter Horror: All the enemies are gross and many look disease-ridden even before Frank gets to them, and the fight scenes are so bloody that Mistrandria’s minions have even put down plastic in most of the rooms to avoid spooking any future guests with bloodstains.
- Voice with an Internet Connection: Jorge fills this role, helpfully at first.
- Vomit Indiscretion Shot: It doesn’t get much more indiscreet than a first-person POV of Frank barfing repeatedly in a bathroom sink after killing his initial targets.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Jorge and his minions torture and murder people in order to appease Her, an ancient being who feeds on pain, and prevent Her from trying to escape into our world.
