Die in a Gunfight is a 2021 romantic crime thriler film directed by Collin Schiffli, written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, and starring Alexandra Daddario, Diego Boneta, Justin Chatwin, Travis Fimmel, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Billy Crudup as the Narrator, among others. It was released in the United States on July 16, 2021.

Set in New York City, it tells the story of the scions of two rich and powerful families involved in a centuries old feud: the self-destructive Benjamin Gibbon (Boneta) and the rebellious Mary Rathcart (Daddario), who fall in love despite their families' deep enmity.

As their attempt to reconnect with each other unfolds, the criminal machinations of Mary's father find themselves in a collision course with the two lovebirds' plans, sure to end in a gunfight.

This film contains the following tropes:

  • Contrived Coincidence: Ben ending up in an altercation with Wayne, the hitman Terrence has hired to kill the whistleblower, while they're both at the club.
  • Feuding Families: The Gibbons and the Rathcarts have been mortal enemies since 1864, when Tarleton Rathcart killed Theodore Gibbon in a duel over a ridiculously petty thing.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Mary was quite rebellious as a teenager, getting expelled from every private school in NYC. Eventually, she didn't so much outgrow her rebelliousness as she got it crushed out of her by her separation from Ben.
  • Romantic Rain:Ben and Mary share a romantic and passionate kiss in a dinner booth... seconds after a grease fire in the kitchen has triggered the sprinkler system.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Ben and Mary fall in love with each other, despite their families having been at each other's throats for centuries.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Terrence is obsessed with Mary, but she doesn't reciprocate his feelings. At one point she outright calls him a stalker.
  • Stepford Smiler: Mary, after she returns from Paris. She bottles up all her emotions and tries to play ball to her parents' wishes. She starts breaking out of it after reconnecting with Ben.
