Dark Waters is a 1944 Psychological Thriller film directed by André De Toth, starring Merle Oberon, Franchot Tone, Thomas Mitchell, Fay Bainter, Elisha Cook Jr. and John Qualen.

Having survived the German U-Boat attack which took the lives of her parents, Leslie Calvin (Oberon) arranges to live with her Uncle Norbert and Aunt Emily on their Louisiana plantation. But Leslie eventually comes to realize that the people claiming to be her relatives are not who they say they are.

  • Even Evil Has Standards: The impostors object to Mr. Sydney murdering Leslie, and reveal that if they had known murder was involved, they would not have co-operated.

  • Kill and Replace: Sydney had Cleeve murder the real Lamonts and has a couple impersonate them.
  • Villain in a White Suit: Mr. Sydney's white suit contrasts with his lack of morals.
