Beck is a Nordic Noir tv-/filmseries (technically a series of tv-films) based on the characters from the Martin Beck novels by Per Wahlöö and Maj Sjöwall. It stars Peter Haber as Martin Beck and Mikael Persbrandt as his angry partner Gunvald.

This series contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Distillation: The series takes the characters from the novels, but uses none of the original novels' plots.
  • Billing Displacement. Kristofer Hivju appears prominently in advertising as if he were the star, in the United States despite only being in the more recent series. Likely to capitalize on his Game of Thrones appearances.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Martin Beck is grizzled but honorable and by-the-book, Gunvald Larsson is a Cowboy Cop of the first water.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: The neighbour who constatly tries to make Beck his drinking buddy.
