Barbatachthian is back

In 2020 Chester Zerum's life came to an abrupt end at the hands of his racist uncle Frederick, something posing as the Archangel Michael, and the many evil beings living in his flat. Barbatachtian was blamed for the crime, and Detective Perspex entered the multiverse to trap him down and get revenge. Now Detective Perspex is missing, and Masked Chief Inspector Samuel Aubergine is the only one who can stop Barbatachthian. Meanwhile, Chester Zerum is brought back to life through mysterious means... and Barbatachtian is not amused.

Barbatachtian Returns is a direct sequel to Barbatachthian, a hybrid of comedy/horror and... bizarrely... musical. It released on 14.10.21 exclusively to Indie Nation Network.

This film provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Archangel Michael: Michael is brought back to life to stop Barbatachthian, but gets absolutely destroyed.
  • Asshole Victim: Chester remains thoroughly unlikeable.
  • Demonic Possession: It's implied that this is what happened to Chester in Wales when he fell over and temporarily died, or at least that something entered his body.
  • From Bad to Worse: Chester is brought back to life, but
  • Genre Blind: Chester
  • Genre Shift: Hops between horror, comedy and musical.
  • Mr. Exposition: Professor Pickles returns for two scenes. The first has him, inexplicably, talk about the history of a place called Kung Fu Island. The second has him heavily imply that he's responsible for everything.
  • Slow-Motion Fall: Chester is pushed down some stairs so violently the edges of the screen turn red.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?:
    • Masked Chief Inspector Samuel Aubergine and The Archangel Michael both die in Chester's flat, but when he's brought back to life there's no sign of either of them, nor are they mentioned.
