General Fics

Past Empty Lots and Early Graves by mothical creatures
  • Recommended by: Hwarin
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Lady Silence paused, briefly, looking deeply unsettled, and then began walking again. “Wait…” Fred tried to scramble to his feet to follow after her, but he couldn’t get his feet under him and he collapsed with a sob. Then there was a tug on his sleeve, and Fred looked up to see Lady Silence standing over him.
  • Pairing(s): None
  • Comments/Reviews: Silna takes pity on Des Voeux and rescues him with Crozier. A look at Des Voeux's motivations for following Hickey, as well as his remorse in the aftermath.

Shipping Fics

I know who you are now by Ceeninja
  • Recommended by: eleanorofaquitaine
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: "The dreams had always been with him. Since he was a child, Thomas would wake at night, images from a time long past dancing in front of his vision. Some were beautiful, peaceful even. His favorites were the ones with another younger boy; they played in a garden, or climbed trees together. There is a woman too, sometimes; darning socks by candlelight, or singing softly under her breath as she tended to supper. She would take Tom to what looked like a farmers market, basket swinging on her arm. Those dreams left him feeling warm and content upon waking. Then, there were the other dreams."
  • Pairing(s): Thomas Jopson/Edward Little, John Bridgens/Harry Peglar, Thomas Hartnell/John Irving, Francis Crozier/James Fitzjames
  • Comments/Reviews: The men of the Franklin expedition have been reborn into the present day with full memories of their past lives, and it is absolutely one of the most lovely and heartwarming things ever. The reunions are enough to make anyone (and especially this Troper) smile.

A Sealskin Coat byWillowbilly

  • Recommended by Lluviawolf
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: When she cuts the seal open a man slides out from the skin.
  • Pairing(s): Harry Goodsir/Lady Silence
  • Comments/Reviews: Harry Goodsir is a selkie and Silna finds him while hunting. Only one chapter so far but even that is a great read.

The Past Is All Behind Me byWallaceAndGromitGirl

  • Recommended by: Lluviawolf
  • Status Complete
  • Synopsis: Twists of fate lead to a different path, one no less difficult to tread. A life ends for the last survivors of the doomed Franklin Expedition, and a new era dawns. An alternate conclusion replacing episodes 9 and 10.
  • Pairing(s): Harry Goodsir/Lady Silence
  • Comments/Reviews: Fritzjames and Goodsir survive with Crozier and Silna. Together they make their own family out on the ice.

Hindsight by Neurofancier

  • Recommended by: Hwarin
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Crozier shouldn’t have joined a research trip run by Fitzjames, his sworn enemy. He should have salvaged his reputation while he had the chance. And above all, he should have paid more attention to the news coming from Wuhan. But you know what they say about hindsight. OR: The silly/serious AU where they're all in a research ship stranded at sea during the pandemic.
  • Pairing(s): Francis Crozier/James Fitzjames, Thomas Jopson/Edward Little, William Gibson/Cornelius Hickey, Cornelius Hickey/John Irving
  • Comments/Reviews: A modern AU where they are academics on a research trip that become stranded on their ship by the pandemic. The way the character dynamics are written is so engaging. A really enjoyable AU that is funny and heartfelt.

now once more ashore we'll go by mothicalcreatures

  • Recommended by: Hwarin
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Solomon had returned from the Arctic in 1849, he’d never imagined he would go back. Apparently, the Arctic was to be his lot in life. No one wanted to hire a disgraced marine, particularly one who had been publicly dismissed for mutinous acts, but the whaling captain who’d eventually hired him had only cared that Solomon knew how to handle himself in Arctic waters. Solomon had returned to work under that same captain year after year every whaling season since.
  • Pairing(s): John Irving/Solomon Tozer
  • Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies
  • Review: An AU that deals with what Tozer (and by extension any other surviving mutineers) may have had to face on their return to England. The author has done their research on historical maritime law, and it adds a lot of depth to the fic. The characterisation - particularly of Irving - is also compelling, and feels incredibly accurate to the series.
